Just a quick note to let you all know of a brand new website in Australia that sends out free samples in exchange for your feedback.

To celebrate PinchMe's pre-launch they're offering a free haircare sample to all the earlybirds.  I signed up last week and received a Pantene Clinicare Micro-Repair Kit in the mail on Monday.  I love getting free stuff :)  I noticed today that a few of the products have now run out but there are still 3 options to choose from.

You can take a look and sign up here http://pinchme.com.au/

From what I can see on the website they'll send you out a sample and then ask for your feedback on it.  Answering the feedback keeps the samples coming!  The full site launches on March 13th.

Here's the sample pack I received:

What do you think about this new site?  Will you be signing up?

I got home from a long day at work to find my Lust Have It box had arrived.  I love getting these boxes and opening them up to see what I get.  Even when I'm not that impressed with what's inside it's still lovely just getting a parcel with some new things to play with.  Cheap thrills right haha!

Anyways I received an email from Lust Have It last week to say the boxes had been dispatched but unfortunately due to shipping restrictions it wouldn't be sent in their pretty new boxes and they also had to leave a sample out but they would send it in next month's box.  I do have to say I found that to be a pretty average reason - surely they work out things like shipping sizes and weights while they're planning each months boxes, just saying!

Anyways here's what I got.

As mentioned earlier one of the samples had been left out of the box, so I only received 4 items this month.

Summer Tan by Mancine 250ml - RRP$29.95 - A full size fake tan.  Even though I'm really white I don't wear fake tan very often.  I wasn't overly excited with this product - I think the words Dark Tan freak me out a bit but I'll probably try it out.

Styli-Style L3 Timeless lipstick in 1508 Diamonds RRP$19.95.  A very shimmery browny colour.  I've only just started wearing colour on my lips and this isn't one that I will wear.  It seems overly shimmery almost even metallic and just not my kind of thing.

The Natural Source Camouflage Colour Nail Lacquers in Emerald RRP$9.99 - I've mentioned before that I'm not huge into nail polish and this is a colour that I definitely won't be wearing, although as was suggested  I could attempt something on my toes.  I'm kind of sick of getting nail polishes in these beauty boxes but I also understand that a lot of people love doing their nails and so would love it.  Maybe I'll just collect them all and then do a giveaway haha.

Lon Vitalite C9 Crystal Moisturizing Hand Mask 1 pair RRP$4.95 - This is something I'm really interested in trying out.

My card says that I was to receive a Bioderma Atoderm Cream but that must have been the sample that was left out and will be in next month's box.

As you can probably tell I'm not that impressed with this month's box.  It's impossible to please everyone and things that don't interest me will really excite other people and vice versa so I'm not complaining at all.  There were 3 full size products this month so it goes without saying that it was still great value for money.

The Lust Have It beauty box cost's $15 a month including shipping if you're interested click here to sign up

occ lip tar, limecrime eyeshadow helper, sleek pout paint

Lipstick Republic also threw in a sample of Limecrimes Eyeshadow Helper which I'm absolutely loving right now - you can read my review here.  Again it's another happy purchase from Lipstick Republic, I encourage you to check them out!! Another thing i forgot to add is I received my parcel the very next day after ordering which is impressive to say the least.

Please note: I am in no way affiliated with Lipstick Republic, I'm just a happy customer who thinks they're awesome :)

Just a quick non-beauty related blog post to let you all I'm a proud mumma of a little kitten called Lucy.  We got her last weekend and she's super cute.  She has a lot of energy as most kittens do and I have a few little scratches but my favourite is when she gets all cuddled up in my lap for a snooze.

I received my Bellabox on Monday this week and whilst it contained some good products I can't say it was anything too exciting for me.

It was a Valentines themed box (does anyone else think this is kinda pointless since we were never going to receive this box before Valentines Day).  Here's what I got:

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse - a 10ml sample of oil that can be used on face, hair and body.  As far as packaging goes it's a beautiful sample housed in a glass bottle.  So much fancier than plastic right haha!  I'll definitely be trying this out.

Sally Hansen Nail Polish in Mermaid Tale.  A full size nail polish which colour is just how you would imagine a mermaid's tail.  It does look lovely but I'm not much of a bright coloured nail person so I can't really imagine using this.

John Frieda Frizz-Ease Dream Curls Curl Perfecting Spray - a 30ml sample.  I have the full sized version of this product and when I leave my wavy hair to dry naturally I spray some of this in damp hair and scrunch it up a bit to create frizz free curls.  This will be handy for next time I travel.

Batiste Dry Shampoo 50ml - I use this product nearly every day and have already received this exact product in a previous beauty box.  This one will join it in waiting for next time I travel.

U Skin solutions Clarifying Cleansing Gel.  This tiny little sample is in a plastic cube with a sticker on top.  It looks so budget and I wonder if I'll even be able to get a finger in there to scoop it out.

Banana Boat Sport SPF30+ - 15ml - A sunblock sample in a sachet is pretty annoying - you really have to use it all in one go.  I'll probably put this in my car for emergency's.  It's sweat resistant and water resistant so in my mind I'm picturing it as thick and I'd only wear it if i was going swimming in the ocean.

Overall the box was okay but nothing really wowed me.  I am considering unsubscribing from the beauty boxes as I'm building up a rather large collection of samples that I'm just not using.  I probably won't though for fear of missing out on something awesome, I'm a sucker I know lol.

The bellabox costs $14.95 per month and you can sign up here

You may remember my January Lust Have It box contained a faulty lush lip product. Click here to read about it.  I contacted LHI immediately who said they would talk to Lush and see what could be done.

Basically the lip product was missing its applicator which due to the design of the bottle made it impossible to use. LHI informed me via email a week or so later that lush would replace the product and send it to me directly.

I received my parcel today and was amazed at what it contained.  Inside my little parcel was 2 applicators so I could now use the faulty product that was originally sent.  On top of this I received a brand new Emotional Brilliance Cream Eyeshadow which is a beautiful neutral colour and also there was a little sample of Helping Hands Moisturiser. It also included a pamphlet telling the Emotional Brilliance story and details on all the products available in the range.

Needless to say I'm hugely impressed by Lush's response to this small issue.  They could have just sent out the applicators or a replacement product but instead they went over and above my expectations.  I now have two awesome Lush products and a sample of handcream.  I love sharing positive stories about customer service and this for me, is one of the best.

Hi lovely readers,

Just a quick note to let you all know of a great deal I picked up this week at my local "Reject Shop".  I purchase a Dove Damage Therapy pack which includes Shampoo, Treatment Conditioner and an overnight Treatment for $5.  Yup $5. I've been using all 3 products for the last 3 days and it's already making my hair softer.

Too good not to share.

I dropped by David Jones yesterday as I'd heard the new Beauty Book had been released.  Click here to see the catalogue.

My main reason for checking out the store was to look at The Balm products.  Now that I live in Adelaide  there's a lot of products that I need and want to catch up on that just weren't available in Darwin.  Of course there's online shopping but there's nothing like playing with the physical products and swatching on your own skin.

I love The Balm products.  Their packaging is super cute and the products are always great quality.  After much deliberation I picked out an eyeshadow and a lip gloss.  David Jones are currently offering a free TimeBalm Primer (worth $34.95) when you spend over $27.95.

The eyeshadow ($19.95) was Shady Lady in "Just this once Jamie" and is a really unusual shade, I think I would best describe it as a neutral brown/taupe with purple undertones.  It can be used wet or dry and has a very creamy texture.  I can't wait to wear this!

The lipbalm ($19.95)was a Plump your Plucker in Pink my Lemonade (coz i seriously needed another pink lipbalm, sigh).  It's a beautiful sheer and shiny lipgloss which isn't very sticky.  It has a hint of pink but nothing too vibrant.  These lipbalms are made with menthol and vitamin c which apparently promotes circulation to the lips and makes them appear fuller.  I could definitely feel the menthol when I applied it but only for a couple of minutes and it definitely didn't have that full-on tingly feeling that some lip plumpers have.  It smells absolutely edible and will take pride of my place as my favourite lipbalm for the time being.

The major thing on offer from David Jones is their Deluxe Sampler Tote which is available to purchase for $19.95 alongside any other beauty purchase.  It is valued at over $93 and you can see below what is available and what I got.  I wouldn't normally pay $20 for a bag of samples as I already have a box full of samples from beauty boxes I haven't used yet but I really wanted to try the David Jones foundation so thought it was worth it for that as it was in my shade.

The David Jones Beauty Book is valid until the 3rd March and there's lot's more gift with purchases and speacial deals on a whole range of difference products so go check it out :)

I recently purchased some NYX loose eye dusts and eye pencils from ebay and now that I've had a good chance to use them I thought I'd share my opinion on them and some swatches for ya.

First of all I got 6x NYX Ultra Pearl Mania (Loose Pearl Eyeshadow) in the following colours (Penny Pearl, Mocha Pearl, Mink Pearl, Jade Pearl, Very Pink Pearl, Purple Pearl)

These eyeshadows are ultra-shimmery and all the colours hold a good pigment, you also only need the tiniest bit to get a great result.  They do crease and fade a little after a few hours on their own but I've been using my Limecrime Eyeshadow helper (review here) underneath which makes the colour become even more pigmented and last all day without a worry.  I've always been a big fan of loose eye dusts and own almost the whole Napoleon Perdis loose eyedust collection and in comparison (pigment and lasting) I would say these are definitely on par.  One of my favourite thing to do with loose eyedusts is mix a drop of powder with a drop of gel sealer (I use Kryolan) and make them into a liquid eyeliner.  Awesome for giving a pop of colour without going overboard!

These 6 loose eyedusts cost me around $15 in total ($2.50 each!!!) and were purchased from ebay which to me is excellent value.

The other NYX products I bought were 3 Jumbo Eye Pencils in Lavender, Yoghurt & Milk.  One of my favourite instagrammers maya_mia_y uses the 'milk' eye pencil quite a lot as a base to her eyeshadow looks so I just had to give it a go.  These pencils have a very creamy texture and create a long lasting colour on your eyelid.  They're awesome as a base for powder eyeshadows but work just as well on their own for a quick and easy eyeshadow that lasts all day.   They're in a hard plastic case and the only thing I'm wondering is how the heck I'm going to sharpen them.  These pencils were also bought from ebay and cost me about $14 (for all 3) including shipping

Overall I'm really impressed with these products.  I love products like these that are super cheap but awesome to use.

Have you used these products before? Any ideas on how to sharpen the pencils

I bought my very first Limecrime item last month and as someone who has been a fan of Doe Deere (founder of Limecrime) for quite a while I was super excited to try her product/s.

Limecrime Eyeshadow Helper a waterproof eyeshadow primer
Limecrime Eyeshadow Helper (Waterproof Eyeshadow Primer)

What they say:
Waterproof eyeshadow primer. Up to 24 hours of crease-free wear, works even on the oiliest of eyelids!

What I say:
I must tell you that prior to this product I'd only tried an eyeshadow primer once before (by MUA) and I wasn't convinced that it was something I even needed.  My eyeshadows do crease by the end of the day but I guess I always just assumed that was part of life.

This product not only makes my eyeshadow last all day without creasing it also provides better pigmentation of colour as well as making the eyeshadows appear smoother.  A great example is my BH Cosmetics 88 colour palette.  This palette has an awesome array of colours but I've found they're not very pigmented and they definitely crease after a couple of hours so I haven't used it too much since buying it late last year.  I figured applying Limecrime Eyeshadow Helper under these eyeshadows would be the ultimate test and it worked.  I now have an 88 colour palette that is completely useable and now very pigmented.

I've done some swatches on my hand so you can see for yourselves how it changes the pigmentation and consistency of the eyeshadows.  In both photos the left side is just BH cosmetics eyeshadow on it's own and on the right is the eyeshadow over top of the Limecrime Eyeshadow Helper.

Swatches of Limecrime Eyeshadow Helper a waterproof eyeshadow primer
Left: No Primer underneath - Right LimeCrime Eyeshadow Helper underneath eyeshadow

Swatches of Limecrime Eyeshadow Helper a waterproof eyeshadow primer
Left: No Primer underneath - Right LimeCrime Eyeshadow Helper underneath eyeshadow

The photos speak for themselves.  I can't tell you if it is actually waterproof as I didn't go swimming or get caught in the rain and I also can't tell you if it lasts for 24 hours because who the heck wears eyeshadow for 24 straight hours... but it did last all day - 8am through to 10pm - on a relatively warm day and I even did a work out.

The tube has 10g product inside but I can see it lasting a very long time as I only apply a smidge to each eyelid.  I purchased the Limecrime Eyeshadow Helper from the Lipstick Republic website (great service) for $21 + shipping and received it within 2 days.  I'm super happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Kayte xx

#1 Rated Primer
Lasts till dawn... comes off when you want it to!
How is Eyeshadow Helper different? It makes your makeup waterproof, while intensifying colors to the max.
Smooth a dollop onto your eyelids with fingertips or a brush. Apply eyeshadow promptly. Enjoy a day of worry-free wear! Wipe off gently with waterproof makeup remover.

It's taken me awhile to decide whether to do a post to show you all my empties for January or just show you my favourite products but I think my favourites are definitely more exciting than the meager few things I managed to use up in January.  I'm notorious for using half of something and then putting it away in the cupboard and opening something new but I'm working on it... Kind of.

From now on, at the beginning of every new month I'll be posting about my favourite products used in the previous month and I'll be keeping it to a Top 10.

Without further ado and in no particular order....

1. Benefit Brow Zings.  This little compact containing a wax and powder with 3 brushes/tools has changed my life (as much as makeup can).  I have it in shade medium and it's absolutely perfect.  You can see my full review here

2.  De Lorenzo Novafusion Colour Care Shampoo in Fire Red.  Anyone with red hair knows how difficult is to keep the colour fresh.. I use this 2 or 3 times a week leaving it in for up to 5minutes when I have the time and bam my hair is shiny and red again.

3.  St Ives Apricot Scrub - Renew & Firm.  This is one of my holy grail items that I just can't live without.  The granules in this one aren't as harsh as the original apricot scrub so I can use it everyday.  It takes off my makeup with ease and leaves my face feeling fresh and clean and even though my skin tends to lean on the dry side it doesn't feel like it's stripping my face down the way other cleansers can.

4.  Makeup Academy Lip Balm in Sugar Lips.  I've talked about these lipbalms in earlier posts and ever since receiving this earlier in the month it hasn't been far from my side.  It's so creamy on the lips with a hint of colour and the moisturizing benefits last for a really long time.  I now have this in every colour - one for my bag, my car, beside my bed, my makeup kit and my bathroom :)

5.  Limecrime Eyeshadow Helper.  I'll be doing a full review on this product soon as I just can't speak highly enough of it.  I have been using this everyday under my eyeshadows and I haven't had any creasing or fall-out even on really hot days and even when I've worked out.  I have a palette of BH eyeshadows which I haven't used much as they are a cheaper quality and don't have very much pigmentation or staying power but as soon as I put this primer underneath it totally transformed these eyeshadows into pigmented shadows that amazingly lasted all day.

6.  Maybelline Full n Soft Mascara.  My holy grail mascara.  I've tried hundreds of mascaras ranging from $5 to $60 but I always come back to this.  My eyelashes are naturally curly and this mascara gives them major volume without clumping or making the eyelashes hard.  It's name really does speak for itself!

7.  Moisture Mist Dual Control Foundation in Ivory.  In January I rediscovered my love for this foundation after finding a half used tube in my makeup drawer.  As far as I can find this foundation is only available in New Zealand and I've already got an order in with a friend to send some over to me.  This foundation gives  the perfect coverage which is buildable.  It has a lovely creamy texture and just sinks right into my skin.  I have drier skin so I don't know how it would go on oily skin - I do know that I didn't like to wear it in Darwin on really hot sticky days but that goes for any foundation really, just slides off.

8.  Makeup Academy Palette - Artistry.  I got this palette for free with an order from MUA in January and I love it.  It has 6 shimmery eyeshadows, 2 blushers, a bronzer and shimmer powder.  The eyeshadows are great, really pigmented and last all day and the other face powders are all really nice natural colours that I've been enjoying wearing.

9.  A'kin Rosehip Oil - I use this every night as a night moisturiser.  It's lovely and hydrating and sinks straight into my skin without leaving an oily residue.  I hadn't used this for awhile but have definitely noticed a huge improvement in my skin just in using it for the last 3 weeks.

10.  Banaban Coconut Oil - I joined the Coconut Oil bandwagon this year after reading the hilarious review by Jenna Marbles  (Don't read her review if you're sensitive to choice words!)  I've been using coconut oil on everything from cooking, to removing makeup, cleansing, hair treatment, moisturiser and bath oil.  It's an amazing oil with hundreds of benefits.  I bought it from my local health food shop and I recommend reading up on it and trying some if you can.

And that concludes my top 10 products for January.  I hope you enjoyed.  Feel free to ask any questions about any of the products or let me know what your favourite products have been recently.

Hairdressers.  Why does it have to be so painful to find a good hairdresser.

As you may know I've only recently moved to Adelaide and with all the stress of the move and travelling and Christmas etc my hair was well over-due for a cut.  One of my best friends is an amazing hairdresser (award-winning in fact) but unfortunately she lives back in NZ so maybe I've been a bit spoilt.  Anyways things were so dire with the hair situation last week and I was whinging about it when I got an email from one of those daily deal sites to say a hairdresser near me was offering a Cut, Colour, Treatment, Blowdry and Shellac Manicure for only $49.  I have a block colour in my hair and only needed a good trim so what could go wrong I thought and proceeded to book it in.

It's taken me awhile to think of the right words to write this as I don't want to come across as a snob BUT I'll begin.  The salon was out in the suburbs and was in a little shopping centre that took me a while to find.  As soon as I walked in I realised that it wasn't going to be exactly high quality service.  Apart from 3 mirrors on the wall there wasn't much decoration, the tiled floor was all cracked and dirty and nothing gave me the idea I was about to be pampered.  Also the Salon is placed very near a Butchers and so for the whole 3 hours I was there all i could smell was raw meat.  Burn some candles people!!!!

I digress...

I can't really complain about my colour, its nice and even, my blowdry consisted of an apprentice drying my hair and then straightening it without the hint of a product or even a brush and my cut was a very tiny trim even though I asked her to take off all my split ends she just chopped into it a bit and the whole cut was done in literally 5 minutes.   I was then taken to the counter to pay where I had to ask if I was having the Shellac.  Turns out she hadn't booked it in so I waited 15mins for the girl to be available to do my nails.  I've had Shellac done a number of times but nothing ever like this, I could pick from 4 colours and there wasn't even a hint of a manicure she literally painted my nails and then stuck them under the UV light.  The bottle of shellac was completely broken on top and while my nails were under the UV light the girl started painting her own nails which on a whole I found pretty unprofessional.  They were also still damp when I left and subsequently one of them is now smudged as I expected them to be dry.

Overall my hair looks refreshed but I definitely don't look like I've just walked out of a salon.  The worst part was when I got home I found hair dye had dripped down my back on my new white shirt.  I've got it soaking it may come out... but still.... who does that....  I'll be doing my research a lot more thoroughly next time I get my hair done.  Also the pictures on the salons facebook page were taken in VERY good light, on a very good day (possibly in another place). Lesson learnt!!

Okay that's enough whinging for me.  It's Friday night and I'm going out for a lovely dinner with my man :)

Do you have any bad hairdressing stories?

Enjoy your weekend lovelies xo
