A few weeks ago I was contacted by the team at Beauty Directory to see if I'd like to trial a facial cleansing brush.  To be honest I've always thought these things were quite gimmicky and have never once been tempted to buy one but I thought it wouldn't hurt to give it a go and form an educated opinion...

The Purasonic Facial Cleansing Brush claims to.....

"use a gentle sonic micro-massage action to literally shake away dirt, debris and make-up to cleanse deeply. Dislodging impurities keeps your skin clean preventing clogged pores and blackheads from developing, leaving your skin smoother, feeling healthier and looking its radiant best."

The cleansing brush uses oscillating technology and the brush has over 300 movements per second.  It features 3 speeds, a timer program that makes it easy to know when to move to a different part of your face (20 seconds on forehead, 20 seconds on chin and nose, 20 seconds on cheeks) and the charge lasts for 3 to 4 weeks before needing to be recharged.  But in my opinion the best feature this cleansing brush has is that it's completely waterproof.

Enough about the boring stuff, I'm sure you all want to know if it's any good.  I've been using this every night for the last 3 to 4 weeks to remove the days makeup and cleanse my skin.  I remove my eye makeup with makeup remover, stick some face cleanser all over my face, wet the brush and get started.  I don't follow the timer rules as such, I spend more time on my neck and chin as that's where I have a congestion issue but I do find the timer useful so I don't spend too long on one area.  The Purasonic Cleansing Brush removes all my makeup with ease, there's never a trace left and always leaves my skin feeling super soft and clean.  My skin leans toward the more sensitive side but I can use this every night with no hint of an irritation.  Over time I've definitely noticed my skin has become clearer and smoother and although I wouldn't say it was a massive improvement it's enough to keep me using it.  Overall I was really impressed with this.  I find it a lot more effective than just water and face cleanser and I feel confident knowing I'm going to bed with no trace of makeup left on my skin.

The Purasonic Facial Cleansing Brush retails for $99.  I have the colour Lovely Lilac but it does come in three other shades.  It's available in quite a few different stores (Target, David Jones etc) and is also available direct at www.purasonic.com.au

I picked up this gorgeous MAC highlighter on a whim from Duty Free in Bali on my way home from honeymoon.  I was super stoked to find the MAC counter, and even more so when I discovered USD prices.  I know the Australian vs the American dollar isn't as good as it used to be but there's still a major difference in pricing.

MAC describes this as a 'gilded peach bronze' and I think that sums it up pretty perfectly.  I love that the shimmer is super fine with absolutely no glitter.  It makes it super versatile and usable on both the face and body.  My favourite place to highlight is the top of my cheekbones, down the centre of my nose, in the centre of my forehead and just lightly on my cupid's bow.  I can safely apply this to all those places and not look like a shiny disco ball.  I apply with a soft brush and a light hand and it's safe to say this has become a firm staple in my daily routine.

In Australia this will set you back about $47 and while I feel lucky to have picked this up for US prices I'll still pay $47 for this when I run out.

Hate is a strong word so instead I'll say that Winter is my least favourite season.  I absolutely detest the feeling of being cold and I seem to be one of those people who feel it more than others.  The thing about Winter is that not only does it make you unbearably cold there's heaps of other side-effects too like dry, scaly skin.  All over.  This is not ideal if you need to leave the house at all during the colder months.

This brings me to my point.  Body Butters.

Winter calls for something heavier than your standard body lotion.  I need something that's going to really hydrate my skin but also not leave it feeling greasy under all the layers I'm inevitably wearing.  The Sanctuary Spa Green Lemon & Orange Blossom Body Butter does just that.  Using Shea Butter, this smooth and creamy body butter is thick enough to feel the hydration instantly but not so thick that it takes forever to sink in and leaves you feeling greasy.  It has a lovely citrus scent that fades quickly so as not to overpower your perfume and is priced at $15.99 for a 300ml tub.  Available from Priceline and other pharmacy's that stock Sanctuary Spa.

Do you dislike Winter like me? What's your favourite season?

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade

Medium Brown
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade - Medium Brown

This is one of my absolute favourite brow products that I just can't seem to put down.  This little pot of creamy goodness applies beautifully with a stiff angle brush and once applied doesn't budge.  It's very pigmented so you'll only need the smallest amount and I find it best to use light feathery strokes and build up as you go.

The great thing about this product is you can create whatever style eyebrow you like; apply it lightly to keep it looking natural or apply more heavily to create a strong defined eyebrow.

Unlike the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz pencil which was over in a matter of weeks and made it on my Top 5 Disapointing Products List, I have been using the Dipbrow daily for over 6 months now and have barely made a dent in the top making it well worth the $39 price tag.

I have the shade "medium brown" but there's over 10 different shades in the Dipbrow range making it really easy to find a shade that suits your colouring.  Thankfully this has become much easier to find in Australia; you can find this in Sephora (Sydney only), the Bellabox website, or Beautybay.

P.S I was pretty stoked to find my makeup artist using this on me for my wedding makeup.  You know you're onto a good thing when the pro's are using it :)

Tuesday, June 9, 2015

It's been a couple of months since I posted here on the blog and for most of this year blogging has been sporadic.  The main reason for this is last month I got married.  Weddings take a lot of time and energy to organise but it was well worth the effort.  We had the most terrible weather but we didn't let it get us down and the photos still came out beautifully.

I plan to blog a lot more regularly from now on and I have a few posts up my sleeve for getting yourself wedding-ready, some tips on how to find a good makeup artist and a few new products I can't wait to show you so stay tuned for those.

For now... here's some wedding pics - feel free to throw any wedding related questions my way if you think I can help.
