Lime Crime Velvetines "Prairie" - Review, Swatches & Dupes

Lime Crime, Velvetine, Lipstick, Prairie, Swatches, Review, Dupes

It's been a long time since I purchased anything from Lime Crime.  Their tarnished history made me pretty dubious of the company and I basically unfollowed them on all my social media.  That was until the Lime Crime Hi-Lite Opals Palette was released (read more here).  The palette was good enough for me to place an order with the company and cross my fingers they were doing better.  With my palette came this free Velvetine in the shade Prairie and it was love at first swatch.

I'm a lover of all things pink and when it comes to lipsticks you'll basically only find varying shades of pink in my collection.  I had purchased a couple of Velvetines years ago but they were the classic Red Velvet and Utopia which was a purple shade so needless to say I never wore them and I discarded them a long time ago.  I was happy to receive this GWP and try out the formula again in a colour that was a lot more suited to me.

Swatch of Lime Crime Velvetine in Prairie
Lime Crime Velvetine in Prairie is described as a dusky nude which sums it up pretty well.  It is a liquid lipstick that dries to a velvety matte finish and is extremely pigmented.  I find using a lip liner underneath gives a more precise lip and helps the product last longer but if you're in a hurry you can definitely get away with skipping the liner.  I suffer from dry lips but as long as I prep first (with a lip scrub) I don't get any flaky or dry bits and I've never had any bleeding either.  Lime Crime claim that this product is kiss-proof but I do find this not to be true although it does stay on the lips fairly well there is some transfer.  I would say I get a good 5-6 hours out of this before I need to re-apply, but as a comparison, it doesn't last as long as my Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit.

Dupes - Mac Cosmetics Creme Cup, NYX Liquid Suede in Tea & Cookies, Lime Crime Velvetine in Prairie, Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit in Smile and Colourpop Ultra Matte in Clueless
Dupes L:R - Mac Cosmetics Creme Cup, NYX Liquid Suede in Tea & Cookies, Lime Crime Velvetine in Prairie, Kylie Cosmetics Lipkit in Smile and Colourpop Ultra Matte in Clueless
I found a few dupes in my drawer for the Limecrime Velvetine in Prairie.  As you can see the Kylie Lip Kit in Smile is almost identical and as this is one of my favourite liquid lipsticks I'm super happy to have the Limecrime Velvetine in Prairie as a dupe.  Colourpop Clueless is a little darker, NYX Tea & Cookies has more pink than nude and Mac Cremesheen in Creme Cup is a bit lighter and a good option if you don't like a matte liquid lip.

Overall the Limecrime Velvetine in Prairie has joined my collection as one of my favourite lipsticks.  The shade suits me perfectly, lasts a really long time and doesn't dry out my lips.  The Limecrime Velvetines cost $20USD, come in a variety of different shades and are cruelty-free and vegan.  The full collection can be found at www.limecrime.com.

  6. This sounds awesome! I really don't own any Limecrime products other than a random metallic lip. I loved your post and I thought it was really cool that you included dupes for it!
