Platinum Beauty Makeup Brush & Sponge Collection

Platinum Beauty Makeup Brush & Sponge Collection

As a trained makeup artist (no longer practicing) I can't stress enough how important good quality makeup brushes are.  They don't have to necessarily be expensive but for makeup artists, brushes are tools of the trade and they are worth investing in.  I'm pretty fussy about the makeup brushes I use.  There are so many crap brushes out there (I have a drawer full of them) and honestly, it's just not worth using them.

When I was asked to try out the new Platinum Beauty Brushes that are exclusively available at Woolworths I immediately thought that there was no way that brushes I could pick up from my local supermarket could be that great.  I thought I better check it out and see for myself.

I was sent the Platinum Essential Collection and also the Platinum Flawless & Precision Sponge Set.

The Platinum Essential Collection consists of three brushes; a buffing brush, small powder brush, and a contour brush.  They come together in a pack housed in a grey case.  Personally, I don't keep my brushes in cases like this as I find it to be a bit bulky and just take up excess space but it could be handy if you travel a lot.

After using all three brushes for the past month or so I have to say I am really impressed with the quality.  They are packed densely and super soft.  They pick up product really well and make the application such a breeze.  The brush handles are really well-weighted meaning they sit comfortably in your hand and feel lovely to hold.  I would say these are very comparable to other brushes I own by Morphe.  My least favourite brush out of the three would have to be the buffing brush as I can't quite work out which product to use it best with.  It's not quite dense enough to use for foundation or powder and isn't the right shape for contouring or highlighting.  The contour brush I have been using daily for contouring with my Hoola bronzer and it works beautifully and the small powder brush has been the perfect brush for applying blush.

The Platinum Flawless & Precision Sponge Set consists of two sponges.  The pink one is just your regular shaped beauty blender type sponge and the purple one has different edges to give you a more precise finish if you need it.  Personally, I'm a huge fan of the original beauty blender and even after trying lots of different brands I haven't found anything that comes close to the original. Until now.  I know this is a huge claim to make and I'd be sceptical too but I can honestly say I won't be buying the original beauty blender again.  The texture is very slightly different but hardly noticeable but the finish is EXACTLY the same.  It does everything the original beauty blender does for a fraction of the price.  Even if you don't believe me, it's cheap enough for you to try out and see for yourself.  I have mainly just been using the pink sponge as I don't really find a need for the edges on the purple sponge.  I did try the purple sponge for applying cream contour though and was pleasantly surprised with the results.

The Platinum Essential Collection 3 Brush Set retails for $29.99 and the Platinum Flawless & Precision Sponge Set retails for $9.99 and even more surprisingly these are available from your local Woolworths supermarket.  There are a few other brushes in the collection for eyes so if you're interested in those, keep an eye out at your local Woolies.

  1. Well these are some nice brushes but for them being from a supermarket for $29.99 you would think you would get more with the price,,, BH Cosmetics is kinda a drug store and they sell brushes in sets way cheaper than theses with a lot more options. But That's my opinion and I appreciate the input on these brushes you review and tested out,,,that what I like is to know someone else opinion on a product before I buy at least I will know what I'm getting and if it's worth it.... 1. Thanks for your comment April and I do agree that $30 for brushes from the supermarket seems like a lot but in this case I think the quality fits the price. These are definitely better than any BH Cosmetics brushes I've ever tried. The other good thing is that supermarkets always have sales so it'll be an even better deal if you can find these on sale!

    1. Thanks for commenting. It used to be impossible to get good quality things for an affordable price but I think as brands become more competitive we'll see things at better prices more often :)

  3. Great review. I'm a brush addict I have to say and a massive fan of the original beauty blender. Those brushes look great. I've tried many sponges also and haven't found anything that lives up to the BB so it's a shame Woolies aren't in the U.K. anymore 😏 Great post x

  4. You have amazing content on your blog. I'm a huge fan of brushes. I swear I have more than my own makeup. Sponges aren't my favorite because for some reason they break easily for me. Like rip apart. I like the new silicon blenders! I'm @grxcieg on Instagram and I can't wait to read more!
